HISTORY:

When the doors to this institution were first opened in 1918, it was under the banner of the faculty of Medicine of the Tbilisi State University. As the faculty expanded, it became independent Tbilisi State Medical Institute from 1930 till 1991 when it became the Tbilisi State Medical University (TSMU) as it is today.

On celebrating ninety years of existence, TSMU can boast about being one of the largest medical universities in Eastern Europe, as well as being the largest in Georgia. Since the establishment of the English-Medium Medical Faculty of General Medicine in 1996, the number of English speaking students enrolled at the university has been increasing dramatically.

Right at the point where east meets the west, this is where TSMU is situated. Thus, there is no mystery that TSMU is a fusion of cultures and ideas.
Study at TSMU is a mixture of professor guided and student independent work. Students are expected to be self-motivated and mature about their studies.

All programmes are worked out on the basis of accepted standards by the medical universities and colleges of European countries, the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom.
